Accessibility of KoulutusOnline videos: Finnish subtitles supplied directly to the publication platform.
The Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce contributes to the operations and success of companies in the Helsinki region. To this end, the Chamber of Commerce is proactive in advocacy and offers various services and networking opportunities to companies and stakeholders.
One part of the services involves offering remote business courses through the KoulutusOnline service. The KoulutusOnline videos are published on Vimeo, and then embedded into the KoulutusOnline website.
Subtitling the KoulutusOnline video content became relevant in the autumn of 2020, when the transition period of the Digital Services Act expired—this is also when the collaboration between the Chamber of Commerce and Lingsoft began.
We designed with the client a comprehensive service model where Lingsoft retrieves videos for subtitling directly from Vimeo and delivers the completed subtitle files back to the platform. First, a single batch of 7,300 minutes of existing content was subtitled, after which new content has been subtitled as an ongoing service as it is published.
Lingsoft’s proprietary speech recognition and subtitling solution are used in the subtitling process, and the draft subtitles are always edited by a language expert. This ensures that the subtitles are genuinely accessible and easy to understand.
The subtitling collaboration offers the Chamber of Commerce not only cost-efficiency but also ease, as the working hours of their employees are not spent on subtitling or managing the process.
